What Is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty, the technical term for eyelid surgery, aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the eyelids, with upper and lower blepharoplasty targeting the upper and lower eyelids, respectively. The eyes are often the first facial features to exhibit signs of aging, as the effects of gravity lead to the descent of skin and soft tissues. This results in dermatochalasis, characterized by excess eyelid skin, and a noticeable “baggy eyes” appearance. The aging process may also contribute to puffiness caused by fat herniation and accentuated changes in the lower eyelids due to the descent of midface soft tissues, including the cheeks.
In addition to these age-related concerns, other anatomical features such as brow ptosis, crow’s feet, ectropion (outward sagging of the eyelid), and under-eye hollowing can contribute to the tired look associated with aging eyelids. Blepharoplasty addresses these issues by removing excess skin and fat, rejuvenating the eyes and restoring a more youthful appearance. To achieve optimal results, it is crucial to seek the expertise of a surgeon specializing in facial plastic surgery who possesses a deep understanding of eyelid anatomy. Dr. Ho is a specialist in blepharoplasty, tailoring each procedure to address the specific anatomical considerations and surgical objectives unique to each patient.
