What is Dr. Ho’s Approach to Lower Eyelid Lift Surgery?
Dr. Ho typically performs lower eyelid surgery under sedation or general anesthesia. Once it has taken effect, Dr. Ho creates a small incision. The transcutaneous incision is made right below the lash line and is used to address excess skin and fat. Another option, the transconjunctival incision, is made inside the lid and is specifically used to only address excess fat.
Once the chosen incision is made, excess tissues including protruding fat are removed as needed to tighten the undereye area. If transcutaneous incisions were made, Dr. Ho then closes the incisions with fine sutures. If transconjunctival incisions were used, those incisions do not require sutures and will close on their own.
Dr. Ho performs lower eyelid lift procedures on an outpatient basis. They can last for thirty minutes to an hour, but additional complementary procedures may prolong this.
Dr. Ho’s trifecta customized approach to lower eyelid surgery most often involves the following steps:
A scarless incision is created on the inside of each eyelid. Through each incision, the excess protruding fat is removed from each of the three fat compartments of the lower eyelids. This step reduces the puffiness or undereye bag appearance and leaves no outer scar.
Fat is harvested from the abdomen or thigh via liposuction. The fat is then refined and injected into the lower eyelids and cheeks to restore volume in these areas. Good candidates are in good overall health, have significant lower eyelid issues that can only be improved with surgery, are non-smokers, and do not have any chronic conditions that could hinder the recovery process. The addition of facial fat transfer to my lower eyelid surgery technique allows the opportunity for broader facial rejuvenation, as other areas of the face can also be enhanced with fat injections at the time of surgery.
