Introduction to Kybella®
Kybella® is the only FDA-approved injectable medication for taking away submental fat that causes the appearance of a double chin. Kybella® in Philadelphia effectively destroys stubborn fat cells under the chin, improving the facial profile and jawline definition.
When regular exercise and a good diet are ineffective in reducing submental fat, Kybella® is an excellent option to address this issue. It is an effective the perfect minimally invasive alternative to invasive surgical procedures and unlike other injectable procedures permanent results.
What is Kybella®?
Kybella® is a non-surgical procedure that targets and dissolves fat deposits under the chin. It is made of deoxycholic acid, which occurs naturally in the body. Kybella® kills dissolves fat cells, which are then metabolized by the body over a period of weeks. This results in volume reduction and contouring of the area below the chin and upper neck.

Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Kybella®?
Kybella® treatments are well tolerated by most people. Ideal candidates for Kybella® are those who are 18 years or older, demonstrate superficial focal fat accumulation below the skin in the area under the chin as well as good skin elasticity, possess realistic expectations, and do not have any active skin infections in the submental region. Compared to the surgical treatment option of submental liposuction, Kybella® injections involve much less downtime and are less invasive.
Your Initial Kybella Consultation
The first step in the Kybella® treatment process is a consultation with Dr. Tina Ho. She will assess your medical history and perform an evaluation to determine whether you are an appropriate candidate for Kybella® injections. Please inform Dr. Ho about any medications you are currently taking, since anti-platelet and anticoagulant medications can lead to complications.

The Kybella® Treatment Session
Each procedure is relatively quick and takes about a few minutes. The treatment sites will be carefully cleaned and marked out, and then Kybella® injections will be delivered to the marked sites. Each Kybella® injection has 10 mg of deoxycholic acid. The number of injections and dose of product required will depend on the amount of fat under the chin and the profile you would like to achieve.
Keep in mind that you will need multiple treatment sessions to adequately reduce the fat under the chin. Sessions must be spaced at least a month apart and a minimum of 3-6 sessions may be required. The number of sessions needed will be decided during your initial consultation and varies from patient to patient.
Kybella® Aftercare
There is minimal downtime required after each Kybella® session. Dr. Ho typically recommends for patients to avoid strenuous activity and exercise for 24 hours following treatment. Minor side effects like swelling and bruising may be present at the injection sites, but these are temporary and will go away within a few weeks. Some patients do experience bullfrog-like swelling immediately after the procedure that will subside as the treatment takes effect. Swelling and bruising can be controlled with icing of the treatment area for 48 hours after the procedure.
Results are noticeable within 4 to 6 weeks following your treatment. You will start to see full results over a three to sixth month period. Since the results are permanent, there is no need for any maintenance visits later.
