What to Consider When Determining the Price for Buccal Fat Removal
In the real world, no two faces are alike. When figuring out the price of buccal fat removal, it may be considered just as unique. As a result, there are several factors used to determine the buccal fat removal surgery cost.
Below are some of the most common characteristics considered in the cost of a buccal fat removal procedure:
The surgeon’s experience influences the cost of buccal fat removal surgery. For instance, a provider with significant experience will demand higher consultation fees and procedure rates, unlike a less experienced surgeon with lesser certifications or experience.
No specific data suggests a special price for buccal fat removal in Philadelphia or other states. Plastic surgery procedures are often sought out in urban areas or places with higher living costs, leading to higher prices.
Buccal fat removal costs vary, including the cost of type of anesthesia used. Surgeons can perform the buccal fat reduction procedure using local or general anesthesia. Typically, general anesthesia requires a specialized anesthesiologist and therefore incurs higher costs than local anesthesia.
Pre-Operative Consultations and Follow-Up Care
In most cases, the buccal fat removal surgery cost includes pre-operative consultations, during which the surgeon assesses your suitability for the procedure and discusses your expectations. In addition, post-operative and follow-up care expenses can affect surgery prices.

I had an Asian blepharoplasty or double eyelid surgery by Dr. Ho and I am very pleased with the outcome. My surgery was successful and the result is beautiful and natural looking. Dr. Ho was kind, caring and very detailed. Her staff was great and so friendly. I would definitely come back for other procedures.
I highly recommend her.
Dr. Ho performed an upper eyelid surgery and a lower face lift on my wife. The left eyelid was torn by a dog bite – it was gruesome. Dr. Ho came out in the middle of the night, 8 months pregnant to repair my wife’s torn eye. Her eyes look gorgeous. This prompted my wife’s decision for a lower face lift. WOW. My wife has the jaw and neck line of a super model. The jaw and neck line she never had. Stunning work by Dr. Ho!! Ask for pics and see for yourself!

Dr. Ho recently performed my upper eyelid surgery on December 3, 2020.I was looking “tired” at 54 y/o and she had suggested the upper blepharoplasty procedure.Dr. Ho took her time and care to ensure I would be comfortable with the procedure and post surgery experience. She answered all of my questions honestly and carefully. She even provided a shopping list of items I could purchase to ensure my recovery and post recovery process went smoothly. She called and checked on me a few hours after the surgery and a couple of days later. It was important to Dr. Ho that I felt cared for and supported throughout the process.I am beyond thrilled with my results! The down time to heal was very minimal (two weeks). We are already discussing lower eyelid surgery for 2021.Thank you Dr. Ho for helping this middle aged woman feel like a better version of herself!

Initially, I had blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery with Dr. Ho. She was great, talked me through the procedure, excellent post follow up. A week into my recovery, a dog bite to the eye – terrible! Because it was at night, I went to the ER and waited for hours. I was so upset! I called Dr. Ho and she came – 8 months pregnant – in the middle of the night. She worked on my eye for hours to repair the torn eyelid. The bite was terrible, but Dr. Ho went above and beyond. Her post op follow up was weekly. My eyes look amazing. The eye that was injured is healed and thanks to Dr. Ho, you can’t even tell. Dr. Ho is a highly skilled surgeon, first and foremost. She is meticulous, provides honest feedback, and cares tremendously about her patients. I’m lucky to have her as my surgeon. I’m a raving fan for life!
I do not have enough words to express my joy with Dr Ho and her artistry! A couple of months ago, at the recommendation of a dear friend, I met with Dr Ho to discuss options for my eyes in particular. For the past five years or so, I had developed permanent dark circles and bags under my eyes (despite more than adequate amounts of sleep) and my eyelids were starting to look very hooded. Dr Ho was incredibly thorough during our consultation, clearly and plainly explaining her suggestions. Her demeanor is friendly and absolutely genuine. Furthermore, she is conservative with her approach so she will not try to “sell” you on something you don’t need….just keeping her eye on making you look your natural best! After my consultation, I decided to proceed with her recommendation of an eyebrow lift, upper/lower blepharoplasty (eyelids), facial fat transfer and laser resurfacing. My surgery went beautifully. Now is the best time to mention that Dr Ho’s bedside manner has the perfect balance of calm, nurture and confidence. Not once did I feel frightened or concerned in her capable hands. Additionally, she made herself available during the post-op period (still does) for any questions, concerns, etc., always responding in a timely manner!
Just a little over two months after surgery and I am already completely healed. Honestly, I was in great shape one month in but now you cannot even tell that I had anything done! All people notice is that “something” is different, I look “refreshed” and….the best one…..you look ten years younger! What is your secret??? My secret is Dr Tina Ho and I don’t mind telling everyone because if you are looking to refresh your look, this is a name you definitely need to know!
Does Insurance Cover Buccal Lipectomy (Buccal Fat Removal Surgery)?
To put it simply, no. Your health insurance plan generally will not cover buccal lipectomies because typically, they will only cover medically necessary procedures. To better understand, we must consider the following definitions by the American Medical Association (AMA).
- Cosmetic Surgery: Cosmetic surgery involves modifying the body’s structures to improve the patient’s appearance.
- Reconstructive Surgery: Reconstructive surgery involves reconstructing organs damaged by congenital disabilities, developmental disorders, trauma, infection, tumors, or disease.
Following these definitions, cosmetic surgeries are not medically necessary, but reconstructive surgeries are. The description tags a buccal fat removal procedure as cosmetic surgery, which your health insurance coverage does not consider to be a mandatory procedure.
Am I A Good Candidate For Buccal Fat Removal?
Is there such a thing as a good and bad candidate for buccal fat removal? Yes. You may be a good candidate for buccal fat reduction if any of the following apply to you:
- Your physical condition is good.
- Your weight is healthy.
- Your cheeks are too large, and you dislike your round and full face.
- You have pseudoherniation, or a weakened and drooping buccal fat pad.
- You are thinking of having facial feminization surgery.
- Your expectations for the result are reasonable.
- You abstain from smoking.
But it is crucial to remember that not everyone is a candidate for buccal fat removal surgery. There are some circumstances in which it might not be advised.
- If your face is already thin, the procedure could cause your cheeks to sag or become more hollow as you age.
- The procedure could impact the buccal fat pad, and the operation might not be suitable for increased hemifacial atrophy (Parry-Romberg syndrome). This uncommon disorder causes the skin to shrink on one side of the face.
- If you are older, the operation may highlight the average fat loss in your face with aging, emphasizing jowls and other facial aging indicators.
The most qualified person to decide if you are an ideal candidate for buccal fat reduction is a plastic surgeon. Dr. Tina Ho, MD, is one of the leading plastic surgeons in Philadelphia and is an expert in buccal fat reduction.
